Finally finished. Fuckin sick. Concise. Well done.

One takeaway for me is that I shouldn't do the bridge on the moog unless I really want that one  to stand out. There's no need to cut it through if everyone's on board - which everyone has been for some time.

On the last bridge (8:19), I stay on a the Roland with a B3 sound and it's much better. Less grating and with more context.➕➕

Update 2: after the return from the bridge at 6:38, at 6:56 someone "whap whap"'s it in on guitar and it's great. Must be pete with the wah.

Update: I'm three minutes in and have "liked" it thrice

    • balsama commented on a recording of I'll Keep My Light in My Window 6 years ago

This is an instrument swap number, right?

      I love it.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Ain't no use 6 years ago

I haven't even listened to this yet and I'm excited.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Head 6 years ago

This mix is really tight though. I love how the guitar is centered in the mix on this. Fitting.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Head 6 years ago

No way this recording is from this session. I must have fucked that up.

      It's great though. Seriously.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Power and the Sky 6 years ago

      Two notes:

      1. Buddy Tony had that "pedal" (that white thing with the dial) dialed in on this song. I've never heard that pedal actually be useful/sound good)
      2. Again... buddy Tony with the cool bass line - I've been quoted as saying it saved Power and the Sky - at 5:40

Bell and Balsam (third note I guess) do a cool solo exchange @ 3:30 that would royally piss of Mackey, but at least Mahlon and Balsam think rocks and Matt doesn't seem to mind.

This might be the best three-man session ever recorded. Nice, nice work. I'm happier about most of the minutes in here than I am 90% of the minutes in our best large jams. Probably because we're being forced to listen more with such a small group. Or because of the tequila I just drank ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • balsama commented on a recording of Barbary 6 years ago

This stupid song rocks on like 12 levels. Seriously. For three dudes without a plan who don't play together a ton, this was very coherent. Nice job Matt for keeping it interesting and Mahlon (mostly) for holding it down.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Power and the Sky 6 years ago

That said... definitely turn it off before 9:10.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Power and the Sky 6 years ago

@mbell #underrated. That's all. You'd have to listen to the whole thing, but starting at 7:00 get's you a good idea. Great tone and flow.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Good ol' Jam 6 years ago

Also note Pete's relative minor shred starting at ~20:20 and taking us out (really picks up at 21:05). I love the contrast of the major sevenths and subdued rhythm section with the bold solo.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Good ol' Jam 6 years ago

Lol. I dig that sound at 7:19 too, and it's that much better because Scott was shooting me dirty looks as I did it, then commented that the keys "occupy the same frequencies" after that song. I still ❤️you mackey. 😘

    • cordmahl commented on a recording of Good ol' Jam 6 years ago

Love how the jam kicks into 4th gear all the sudden at 6:15. Adam, at 7:19 Scott is sustaining on an F then you ever so subtly match the F and take over the sustain with the moog. There have been other times where you've done that to take over the solo too. I love when you do that.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Incorrigible 6 years ago

Coming off a nice solo by Pete, Scott starts playing E, F#, D a little after 9:00 which sounds nice.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Wasp / Behind the Wall of Sleep 6 years ago

This rocks. We should play this (and any other rando Sabbath songs that you guys all know) together.

    • Mahlon commented on a recording of I'll Keep My Light in My Window 6 years ago

      I added a drone effect...just f'n around. So if you're wondering if you're hearing feedback...no you're not.

    • balsama commented on a recording of I Can't Go For That 6 years ago

This is such a cool 3/4 minutes.

    • cordmahl commented on a recording of I Can't Go For That 6 years ago

I really like what Bell starts evolving starting at 8:45 takes hold by 9:30...then Adam starts throwing in the Herbie melody on the Roland then on the Moog with a couple different sounds...Pete supporting with arpeggios, Bell picks up the tambourine and then at 11:45 we open it up a bit. Me and Chris just holding it down.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Cthulhu 6 years ago

This sounds like an instrument swap song. Mahlon's got some cool rhythms going on the keys in a few spots.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Inner City Blues 6 years ago

Love the bass drum roll you do at the beginning of this, Mahlon.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Come Dancing 6 years ago

I said this on dropbox a while ago, but worth repeating, Pete's tres octave solo @2:30 sounds awesome.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Inner City Blues 6 years ago

We've got to figure out an agreed way to get to the F on this song. I love the bass line and organ lick, but it needs to go somewhere.

    • balsama commented on a recording of Head 6 years ago

This is quite listenable actually. I like it and we somehow kept it interesting for 11 minutes.

    • balsama commented on the session recorded on 6 years ago

I can't go for that is a standout. Nuisance is cool and the instrumentation sounds great on it. I can't believe we didn't play I'll leave my light on...

    • balsama commented on the session recorded on 6 years ago

Why only two songs I wonder? Short night or everything else totally sucked?

    • balsama commented on a recording of I Can't Go For That 6 years ago

      Herbie @ 10:00!

    • Mahlon commented on a recording of Dumbfounded Pupil 6 years ago

Man I fucked up some of those fills. There are a couple spots where we settle into something cool, though.

    • balsama commented on a recording of By This river 6 years ago

We morphed into a major chord resolution somehow during this which is no bueno IMHO. This progression has wheels. Outside of the original Brian Eno song, there are some samples that have good grooves. Living Legends/Never Falling Down comes to mind

    • balsama commented on a recording of Ain't That Peculiar 6 years ago

This was nice. Nice job Matt. Not sure what/why we fell apart at the end, but it was time to end anyway :)
